Partick Thistle have received an approach for star defender Liam Lindsay from English League One side Oxford United.

But TimesSport understands that the figure put forward by The U's falls well short of the Firhill club's valuation of the player, and that a seriously improved offer will be required in order to secure the services of the 21-year-old.

The clubs are still in negotiations, but Thistle are expecting interest from other parties, and have made it clear that the player will not be sold for less than their valuation.

Lindsay had an outstanding season during the last campaign, emerging as the leader of the Thistle defence and eradicating the mistakes that had been evident in his early appearances in the first team.

His form was such that he was touted for a Scotland call-up, and was voted into the PFA Scotland Premiership team of the year by his fellow professionals.

While Thistle would love to keep him at the club, they will not stand in his way should they receive an offer in line with what they perceive to be his market value.
