JORDAN TURNBULL insists Partick Thistle won’t push the panic button in the Premiership despite failing to pick up a point from four top flight fixtures.

Alan Archibald’s side are bottom of the standings heading into the international break after a frustrating start to the campaign once again at Firhill.

The Jags were beaten by Aberdeen on Saturday as they lost a seven-goal thriller on home soil to leave them as the only Premiership side that have yet to get off the mark this term.

But defender Turnbull knows there is no reason to get anxious just yet as Thistle look to recover from a sluggish start.

He said: “We’re obviously aware of the table and the situation we find ourselves in but we’re still positive. It’s early in the season and we’ve had three really tough games.

“For me, we’ve coped really well with the opposition so far but we’ve been unfortunate on a couple of occasions. We know this is a results business and we need to start getting some and I’m sure we will.

“We have a strong squad and a really good group of players here and things are going to click soon.

“It’s been about fine margins so far. We’ve lost each game by just one goal in each of those defeats and Saturday against Aberdeen was particularly disappointing, when we conceded late on and lost a point we’d worked really hard to earn.

“We sat down and spoke about that today and we’ll spend the next two weeks working hard to get ready for the next game.

“I wasn’t here last season but I’m aware that the team also got off to a poor start then and still finished in the top six but you never want to leave it too late – we want to start picking up points as soon as possible.

“We’ve certainly put the effort in on the training ground but we just haven’t had the breaks yet.”

Thistle have failed to burst out of the blocks in the last couple of seasons but have then got into their stride and quickly climbed the Premiership standings in into mid-table safety.

The Jags return to action next weekend with a trip to Ross County before back-to-back meetings with Rangers on league and cup duty at Firhill.

It hasn’t been the start to life in red and yellow that Turnbull had hoped for following his loan switch from Coventry.

But the 22-year-old is confident Archibald’s side can put a disappointing opening few weeks behind them sooner rather than later.

He said: “Is it too early to panic? I think so. We have a great squad and a great manager and excellent people around the club. The lads are still going into every match confident, we’re a young group and we’re all still learning new things.

“We’re going to kick on, I’ve no doubts about that. I’ve had slow starts to a season before but this is something we can fix and we have plenty of time to work on it and improve.

“Against Aberdeen, we were really disappointed to have scored three goals and come away with nothing, especially since it was a home game.

“We conceded a penalty and their first goal was a scuffed shot but there were things we could have done to stop the others. Basically, we need to work harder as a team all over the pitch.

“By improving each other at training, the results will come and grafting together as a unit will see us score even more goals.”
