TRIBUTES have poured in for one of Partick Thistle's oldest fans who has passed away.

Harry Calderhead passed away peacefully on Sunday after supporting the Firhill side his entire life.

It is understood that the Jags fan was 98 years old.

The club paid tribute to Harry on the social media website Twitter and shared an image of the supporter which was taken at their last home game against Aberdeen on August 26.

A spokesman said: "All at the club were devastated to hear our oldest fan, Harry Calderhead, passed away. Our thoughts are with his family and friends."

His granddaughter Heather, who is also a Partick Thistle fan, took to Twitter to confirm her grandad had died.

In an emotional tweet, she shared an image of Harry with the date 1919 to 2017.

She said: "Thank you everyone for your messages. My granda died peacefully in his sleep at Marie Curie. We appreciate your kind thoughts."

Partick Thistle supporters paid tribute to Harry after hearing the news from the club and his granddaughter.

One fan said on Twitter: "I used to see him on the old Milngavie and Summerston bus, every away game no matter where we were playing."

Another fan added: "He must have been a great character in the terraces, safe journey."

On Facebook other fans shared their memories of Harry.

David Beattie said: "I always was delighted to spend time with Harry - a true gentleman and always smiling with a cheeky glint in his eyes. RIP Harry. A Jags legend."

Derek MacPherson said: "Sad news indeed. I didn't know him personally but he became a bit of a Jags legend over the past few years. RIP Harry."

Other fans were calling for a minute's applause at the club's next game. Partick Thistle are due to play Ross County away on Saturday and Rangers at home on Friday, September 15.

Stuart Bateman said: "God rest his soul. Sad day for his family. Let's have a minute's applause for him next home game."

Last year, Partick Thistle celebrated the fact Harry is their oldest fan by offering him a free season ticket for life. His granddaughter shared an image of him receiving the unique gift from manager Alan Archibald.

The pernsioner also featured in the book The Passions of Harry Bingo which was released this year by Peter Ross.
