PARTICK Thistle have announced the signing of midfielder Martin Woods on a deal until the end of the season.

The 31-year-old left Ross County in the summer and was training with the Jags squad this week after Stuart Bannigan was ruled out for six weeks with a knee injury.

He previously had a trial spell at Motherwell in August, but failed to win a deal with the Steelmen.

Alan Archibald revealed that the experienced former Scotland Under-21 international will provide cover with Bannigan out, but admitted he is not match fit after spending several months without a club.

He told “Martin has trained with us a couple of days already this week and we bring him in to provide us with cover for that vital area in the middle of the pitch as we unfortunately lose Stuart Bannigan for four to six weeks while he recovers from the minor operation to clear up some minor issues in his knee.

“Martin has a wealth of experience and, while he is lacking in fitness, I expect him to be ready to play his part sooner rather than later. I trust you will all give him the welcome he deserves when he does make his debut.”

The former Doncaster Rovers midfielder made 29 appearances for the Staggies last season, scoring one goal and providing six assists.
