Niall Keown hopes Partick Thistle slice up Hamilton this weekend - so team-mate Conor Sammon can finally tuck into his free pizza with a smile on his face.

Jags frontman Sammon found himself the butt of internet jokesters this week after featuring in a promotional picture that ended up going viral.

Bosses from club sponsors Pizza Express have vowed to "Feed the Fish" with a free pizza every time he nets a home goal at the Energy Check Stadium at Firhill.

But he was left stern-faced as two late Dundee goals on Saturday meant his seventh strike in as many games proved worthless.

However, the gloomy Irishman was still required to be pictured receiving his reward - with the photo quickly pounced upon by quick-witted Twitter users.

Defender Keown was also able to see the funny side, even if he did have some sympathy for his Jags colleague.

"It was a difficult time to be standing there posing with a smile for a picture straight after the game," grinned Keown.

"It was something set up between the club and Pizza Express, so it was just something he had to stand there and endure - as you can probably tell from the picture.

"I'm not sure what happened to Saturday's pizza but hopefully we can get a win this weekend and he'll be able to tuck into another one and enjoy it this time."

But Keown admits his side will have to match Sammon's performance levels if they are to grab an all-important win against relegation rivals Hamilton.

Thistle are just a point in front of second-bottom Accies - but have played two games more than Martin Canning's team.

Last-placed Ross County, meanwhile, are only three back and are next up for the Maryhill strugglers after this weekend's SuperSeal Stadium showdown.

Now Keown has called for Alan Archibald's men to stick together as they battle for their top-flight survival.

He said: "Conor has been doing brilliant but this is a team sport.

"Seeing games out is a team thing and we need to do better all over the pitch.

"We need to do as well as we can to score as many goals as we can in games and we can still improve on that - as we can still improve on all aspects of the pitch.

"It's about making sure we stick together as a team and not separating ourselves as there's some big games coming up."
