IAN MAXWELL believes that his knowledge of every level of the Scottish game will be invaluable as he begins his new role as Scottish FA Chief Executive.

The 42-year-old was confirmed as the successor to Stewart Regan last month and began work on Tuesday after leaving his position as Managing Director of Partick Thistle.

Maxwell believes that his experience in playing and boardroom roles, as well as coaching at youth level, will give him a head start with understanding the key issues needing addressed at Hampden.

He said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be here. It’s a huge honour.

“I think I bring a unique understanding of Scottish football across every level.

“I’ve played and scored in every division in Scotland, which I’m not sure many have done.

“I was assistant manager, General Manager and Managing Director at Thistle.

“My son plays for Cumbernauld Colts, I’ve coached his teams for a number of years, and I still play Over-35s football on a Sunday afternoon so Scottish football means a lot to me.

“I see it from different viewpoints – on and off the pitch, from the boardroom to a local level.

“Having an understanding of the issues that every different area of Scottish football faces can only help in dealing with them.”
