MARVIN Andrews today threw his weight behind moves to catch the lout who racially abused Rangers players Kyle Bartley and Maurice Edu on Twitter.

However, the former Gers centre-half fears the scourge of racism will never be driven out of football – even if the culprits are prosecuted.

Andrews was appalled to discover the black players in Ally McCoist's squad were subjected to online taunts about their colour.

He said: "I showed my support for the Show Racism the Red Card campaign shortly after an Old Firm game when some Rangers fans made monkey noises at Celtic's Bobo Balde.

"I was happy to speak out against racism. I said it was from the pits of hell and is one of the worst things people can do.

"I have been told that gestures or comments have been made towards me. But I have never noticed anything.

"My attitude is that, as long as the devil is in this world, you will have racism.

"We can try hard to lessen it. But to get it out of football is impossible.

"I believe what goes around will come around. Whether you do good or evil, that thing will come back to you eventually.

"I know there are people who are racist against me. It is naive to think otherwise. It's something we must live with.

"I have a Twitter account and I read the things that were written about Maurice Edu and Kyle Bartley.

"I am afraid no matter how hard people try, as long as the devil is there racism is there.

"You have to fight against it and I support the campaign against it 100%, but it is naive to think it is going to eradicate it."
