Against a backdrop of empty blue seats, the only noise made by the small Ibrox crowd was an echo of boos as the Rangers players trudged off the pitch yesterday.

A week of negativity off the pitch ended with further misery on it. The Scottish Cup can be scored off the list of possibles this season for Rangers.

Yet, amid the mounting financial problems, the threadbare nature of his limited squad, the increasing frustration of the Ibrox support and the mounting poor results, manager Ally McCoist was defiant when asked if Rangers are now a club in crisis.
