ALEX McLEISH admits Mark Warburton will have to quickly adapt to the pressure and must-win mentality at Rangers.

The 52-year-old won the race to become the new Light Blues boss last week and his first match in charge is now just over a month away.

Rangers will kick off their campaign with a Petrofac Training Cup first-round clash on July 25 before beginning their League Cup bid seven days later.

St Mirren will then make the trip to Ibrox for the Championship opener on August 8 as Warburton and assistant David Weir look to get their title bid off to a flying start.

The pair took Brentford to the brink of a place in the English Premier League last season, but McLeish, who won seven major honours as Gers boss, knows it will be a step into the unknown for Warburton at Ibrox.

He said: "I think it is a really good appointment in terms of what these guys did last year.

“David Weir and Mark Warburton are a good team and they showed what they could do at Brentford.

"Obviously, Rangers is a different kettle of fish because it is must-win every single week, that’s the demands of Rangers Football Club and the fans, and you don’t mind that.

“David Weir is a bit of a winner and it might be new for Mark Warburton, but he’s saying the right things.

“He wants to get the team playing good football and winning at the same time, but the most important thing is that he’s got to win.”
