DAVID WEIR reckons Rangers are getting a much improved Danny Wilson second time around after the defender clinched his return to the club.

Wilson has agreed a three-year deal at Ibrox just weeks after captaining Hearts to the Championship title as he became the first signing of the summer following the appointment of Mark Warburton as manager.

Weir helped Wilson on the road to first-team stardom before he made a £2million switch to Liverpool five years ago and he has since also turned out for Blackpool and Bristol City.

The 23-year-old is set to become an integral part of Rangers’ plans going forward, and assistant manager Weir is delighted to have him back on board ahead of the new campaign.

“I think he’s gained a lot,” he told rangers.co.uk

“You forget how young he was when he was playing here the first time and obviously he’s gone down south and had various clubs there.

“He’s learned a lot and he’s matured a lot. Meeting him in the last few days again you can see he’s grown up and he’s developed physically and mentally, so he’s a different lad to what he was, although he’s still got a lot of the same characteristics.

“He does tick a lot of the boxes as well as the fact he is vocal, he is a leader and he’s a potential captain.

“He’s got the attributes to come in and be the right type of person, set the tone for everyone else and be a part of what we want to do here.”
