WES FODERINGHAM has revealed he turned down English Championship offers to chase his Champions League dream with Rangers.

The keeper has put pen-to-paper on a three-year deal with the Light Blues to become the third signing of the summer at Ibrox.

Foderingham had options in England’s second tier following his exit from Swindon at the end of the campaign but has chosen to make a move north of the border.

And the 24-year-old is determined to make the most of his opportunity as he bids to help Rangers back to the biggest stage of all under new boss Mark Warburton.

Foderingham said: “The English Championship is a good league if you want to be an English Championship player.

“I don’t want to be an English Championship player, I want to play higher than that.

“The best way to do that is at Rangers.

“If I joined another Championship side in England, I wouldn’t have the chance to play in the Champions League in a couple of years.

“This gives me the best opportunity and there is no English Championship club with the stature of Rangers, so it was a first choice.

“Scottish football has come on over the years. There is a divide from the top of the SPL to the rest, but it’s not a bad level.

“Rangers is a massive club and I was very pleased when I heard of the interest and pleased when I signed.”

The arrival of Foderingham completes another piece of the jigsaw for boss Warburton as he continues his Rangers rebuilding job this summer.

Defensive duo Danny Wilson and Rob Kiernan were recruited from Hearts and Wigan respectively last month while a move for John Eustace remains in the pipeline.

The countdown is on to the start of the new campaign as Rangers look to make it second time lucky in the Championship this term.

And Foderingham was impressed with Warburton’s vision for the future at Ibrox after signing on the dotted line on Friday.

He said: “Mark could not have sold it to me any better, to be honest.

“He’s a genuine guy and he did a fantastic job at Brentford.

“I don’t think too many people knew his management capabilities at the time, but he did fantastically well and got Brentford into the play-offs against the odds.

“They were a young, hungry, exciting side who liked to play football and he’s aiming to do the same and bring the same ethos here.

“He’s aiming high to get out of this division at the first time of asking, then compete in the Premiership and there into the Champions League. That’s the three-year plan, that’s the aim.”
