IAN Black, the former Rangers midfielder who was released by the Ibrox club at the end of last season, has turned out for Ladbrokes League 2 club Berwick Rangers as a trialist.
Black played in a pre-season friendly for the Shielfield Park club against junior opponents Haddington Athletic last night.
The 30-year-old scored the Wee Gers’ opening goal to cancel out an early strike by SJFA East Region club Haddington.
Colin Cameron’s side ran out comfortable 4-2 winners with the former Scotland internationalist playing for them.
The former Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Hearts man wasn’t offered a new contract by Rangers after his deal expired in the summer.
Black, who was banned for breaching SFA betting rules during his three years at Rangers, failed to win over the Gers fans during his time in Govan.
He fell out of the first team under caretaker manager Kenny McDowall and then interim boss Stuart McCall in the second half of last season.
He told Sky Sports earlier this month that he was looking to further his career by moving to England and had options available there.
Black said: “Touch wood, I've been injury-free and I've not had any operations or bad injuries so that’s a benefit.
"I've got a few options down south and I think I'm going to go there. It’s just a case of weighing them up, picking one and hitting the ground running with the challenge.”
