IAN McCALL admits Ayr United have already got a result out of their cup-tie with Rangers by just being drawn against the Ibrox giants.
Mark Warburton’s side will make the trip to Somerset Park next month for a Petrofac Training Cup second-round fixture after beating Hibernian 6-2 on Saturday.
Rangers will be heavy favourites to book their place in the last eight against an Honest Men outfit that have ambitions of promotion from Ladbrokes League One this term.
Boss McCall knows they have a chance of causing an upset on the night, and hopes the financial windfall will benefit the club no matter the outcome in Ayrshire.
“We are trying to re-establish ourselves into what we once were and it is great for our supporters to have a game like this so early in the season,” he told Radio Clyde.
“But it is tempered by the fact that we have already played them. I know David Weir well and played with him at Falkirk, and we played them at Murray Park where they beat us 2-0 and what an absolute chasing they gave us! It will be very hard and they do play a certain way.
“But it is great for our supporters and it is a great game for us to look forward to. It is a cup-tie and you have always got a chance.
“I am trying to get the mentality that we try and beat everybody at Somerset Park.
“We might have to tweak the way we play a bit because they do play a certain way with a lot of width in the team and a lot of rotation in midfield.
“It will be really, really hard for us to get a result. The result, for me, is paying customers through the gate and that might mean another two players for us in terms of us trying to get promoted from League One into the Championship.
“It is a cup-tie and you can win a cup-tie. History shows that smaller teams beat bigger teams in a cup game.”
