JAMES TAVERNIER reckons Rangers showed a different side to their game as they battled their way to victory over Hibernian at Ibrox.

The right-back clinched a sixth successive win for Mark Warburton’s side with a moment of magic in a competitive affair as he curled home a stunning second half free-kick.

Victory over Hibs means Rangers are now six points clear of their title rivals in the Championship standings and are still undefeated on Warburton’s watch.

And Tavernier was pleased to see the Light Blues digging deep to get over the line in front of another bumper Ibrox crowd.

He said: “Hibs doubled-up on my side and it was difficult at times, but you tend to find a solution and get spaces when they are not expecting.

“We dropped to their level in the first half, but we upped the tempo in the second half and got the benefit of that.

“Digging out a result is a massive thing. You get ugly games which will be scrappy and you won’t win by a large margin.

“There will be 1-0 wins and we’re just happy to get the three points by finding a way to get the game won.

“Keeping a clean sheet is half the battle and it was good from all of the lads.

“Everyone stuck in and the lads coming off the bench had an impact. The gaffer always tells us that we all have a part to play.

“You can’t win a league on style alone and we have a great group who know their roles. We are tight with each other.”

Tavernier has now scored four goals in six games as he has made an instant impact at Ibrox following his summer switch from Wigan.

And the 23-year-old is delighted his time on the training ground is paying off after he scored his second free-kick of the season with a terrific curling effort into the top corner.

He said: “I practise until I get told off by the gaffer and warned to rest my legs.

“You always try and practice as much as you can after training.

“The boys are hungry to be better and make the club the best it can be.

“Every day after training, you see boys still out there until the gaffer tells you to save your legs.

“Some of the other boys do passing, Rob and Danny practice their heading and it all shows on the pitch. Doing extra makes you a better player.”

Rangers will now turn their attentions to the League Cup clash with Airdrie on Wednesday night as they bid to keep up their fine run of form.

Arsenal starlet Gedion Zelalem watched from the stands yesterday and could make his debut against the Diamonds after completing a loan move to Ibrox.

Tavernier said: “I’ve spoken to Nathan (Oduwa) and Dom (Ball) who have played against Gedion for Spurs.

“They say he has good flair on the ball and I am looking forward to training and playing with him.”
