GEDION ZELALEM is confident a loan move to Rangers can help him make his breakthrough at Arsenal.

The midfielder has put pen-to-paper on a deal that will see him turn out for Mark Warburton’s side until January after the Light Blues beat off competition from clubs in England to land the highly rated Emirates kid.

Zelalem watched from the stands as the Gers beat Hibs 1-0 on Sunday to move six points clear of their title rivals in the Championship standings.

He could make his debut in the League Cup second round tie against Airdrie tomorrow night and is delighted to be on board at Ibrox.

Zelalem said: “It is definitely a great opportunity for me. It is a massive club and I saw that [on Sunday] when I was at the Hibernian game.

“The fans are incredible and I am looking forward to playing here. Playing in front of 50,000 fans will replicate what it will be like at Arsenal, the media spotlight and the manager has spoken about great football, so that was definitely a big factor in my decision.

“Everyone knows the name Glasgow Rangers. So, right away, I was like ‘I’m interested’. You know the name, everyone has heard of it.

“The training is similar to Arsenal, everything is on the ground, it is possession based stuff so I am getting used to it very quickly.

“Before I came, I saw all the facilities and they are incredible. But you really don’t know until you come here. It is definitely Champions League level facilities, it is incredible.”

The capture of Zelalem is a significant coup for Warburton as the 18-year-old follows Spurs starlets Dominic Ball and Nathan Oduwa in making the move north of the border.

The playmaker is one of the most highly-rated young players in the Arsenal ranks and helped the United States to a third-place finish at the Under-20 World Cup this summer.

But, with the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Santi Cazorla standing in his way, his first team chances with Arsene Wenger’s side were likely to be limited in the coming months.

The Berlin-born midfielder has been given the blessing of his Gunners coaches to clinch a deal with the Gers as he looks to make a big impression in the Championship.

He said: “They were very supportive and they said it was a big opportunity and that it will be really hot on the pitch because the fans will get on to you if you make a mistake.

“That is football and I need to get used to that, and the winning mentality where you have to win every game. I am really ready.

“That is every player’s goal – to get noticed, to play well and to help the club.”

After seeing his new side in action on Sunday, Zelalem could be given a chance to show what he can do at New Broomfield tomorrow night.

Boss Warburton could look to ring the changes for the Diamonds duel and the latest Ibrox recruit is ready to play if called upon.

“Definitely, whenever the manager wants me to play I will play,” Zelalem told RangersTV.

“I am looking forward to it and hopefully I am involved.”
