MARK WARBURTON insists his only focus is winning games this season – not the Rangers record books.

Victory over Queen of the South tomorrow afternoon will give Warburton his eighth straight success in the dugout and see the Light Blues boss equal the record set by Bill Struth in 1920.

Rangers have made a storming start to the season under Warburton and the 52-year-old is pleased to see his squad getting their rewards so far.

He said: "What excites me is winning and how we play the game. It's not about records, it's about the players.

“They have been outstanding. We've had a good start, but it's about winning and nothing more.

"I think the players are ahead of schedule - they've been outstanding and we're pushing forward. They are in a good place right now.

"The players have all worked really hard. Their work ethic and preparation have been first class.

“They are tested every single day and they apply themselves really well. They are getting rewards for their hard work."

Rangers made it seven wins from seven games with a comfortable 5-0 win over Airdrieonians in the League Cup on Wednesday night and head to Palmerston aiming to move top of the Championship standings.

Victory in Dumfries would be another significant one for Warburton and the Ibrox boss is determined to keep the good times coming for as long as possible.

He said: “The sun is shining now and it’s all very nice. But I’m sure when we have a bad game or a bad day at the office then dark clouds will roll in.

“But our job is to recognise that situation. I we can avoid the dark clouds for as long as we can then long may the sun shine. Our job is to make sure we do our very best.

“I think we have a really strong squad. The players are gelling and they are enjoying what they are doing. Our job has to be to keep on pushing forward.”
