ROSS MCCRORIE was pleased Rangers’ second string were able to bounce back to winning ways as they saw off St Johnstone on Tuesday night.

The Murray Park skipper lead his side to a 2-0 win over the Saints thanks to goals from Scott Roberts and Ryan Hardie.

Ian Durrant’s side went down 1-0 against St Mirren last Saturday but were back on track at the first attempt against an experienced Perth line-up, which included defender Steven Anderson.

McCrorie said: “Last week I was at fault for St Mirren’s goal, but it was my first game back after being out with food poisoning.

“I was trying to get my fitness back up and it was good to come back in tonight and get that clean sheet, so hopefully we can carry it on into the next game.

“The boys were brilliant and dug in deep. It was a hard game with them being the older team, and we had a lot of young boys in our team. The 17s boys that came on – Kyle Bradley and Liam Burt – did really well.

“I didn’t think that was our best, but we still dug in deep, and went on to win the game. It was a good experience for us to play against the older players.”

After helping the Light Blues to a Development League victory, McCrorie will now turn his attentions to international duty in the coming days.

The defender will be part of the Scotland Under-19 side that will face Mexico, the USA and hosts Germany in a mini tournament.

And McCrorie is relishing the chance to test himself against top young talents for Scot Gemmill’s side.

“It will be a great experience playing against the best players from round about my age, so hopefully I can take something from there, bring it back to the games we play in the league and hopefully improve me as a player,” he told rangers.co.uk.
