MARK WARBURTON won’t take the backing of the Ibrox crowd for granted as he continues his Rangers revolution in the coming months.

The Light Blue legions have bought into the new approach the 53-year-old has implemented this term as he has overhauled his squad and introduced a slick, attacking style of play.

It is a philosophy that has already had considerable success and Rangers host Falkirk tomorrow aiming for their ninth straight Championship triumph.

But former Brentford boss Warburton knows it is not a given that the support from the stands will continue if Rangers’ form falters.

He said: “The fans have been great but that’s a danger for us, they might revert to type and encourage us to hit it long.

“If something doesn’t go right or we concede a goal the obvious thing to do is go back to what you know.

“So we need to be wary off the fans losing patience and if they do that puts a lot of pressure on the young players, but the fans have been outstanding.

“I hope they can see what we are trying to do – it’s only three months - and I hope they can see the effort of the players.

“Work ethic and commitment are important because there will be days when things don’t come off. As long as the commitment is there the fans will buy into it.

“We put in some very good performances last year and lost. We played against Norwich and we were magnificent for 70 minutes but lost 3-0.

“The biggest thing from that was that the whole of Griffin Park applauded us off at the end so that was a huge message to the players.

“We went to Carrow Road and beat them 2-1 but didn’t play as well.

“Sometimes it is how you play then the fans are more patient with you.”

It has been an impressive start to the campaign for Rangers as they have won 12 out of their 13 matches Warburton’s side have played this term.

And the Ibrox boss is confident his fresh approach will continue to pay dividends on the park as sights are set on the Championship title.

Warburton said: “Hopefully if we do play our way we will be winning. That’s not being arrogant.

“If we do what we do well then hopefully we will create chances and we will score goals and do OK.

“There will be days when you have 27 attempts at goal and score one. We didn’t play that differently against St Johnstone as we did against Morton and we beat them 4-0.

“We gave Morton some chances but they didn’t take any of them. We gave St Johnstone five chances and they scored three.”
