MARK WARBURTON is confident Rangers can handle the pressure of extending their unbeaten start to the Championship campaign.

The Light Blues are nine points clear at the top of the second tier table after a superb start to the season that has seen them sweep aside all of their league rivals to date.

The visit of Queen of the South a week on Saturday is next on the Gers’ agenda as they bid for ten-in-a-row and Warburton is determined to keep up the momentum for as long as possible.

He said: “It is about the team’s commitment and getting the rewards for the work that they are doing. The more we can win, the better we are.

“Things have gone well, there is no doubt about that. The way the team have gelled, the unity of the group, has probably exceeded expectation.

“But I had no doubt about their quality. We saw from the first day of pre-season training what they could achieve.

“They are hungry, they are committed, they are getting rewards for their hard work, which is important, and they are pushing forward. This break has come at a good time for us.

“You have to enjoy it. You can look at it and say it is a weight on your shoulders or say it is great and relish these ties, relish winning games and show that you are a good player.

“They are good players, so go and enjoy being a good player. The more we can do of that, it comes with hard work, commitment, focus, and quality of course, and if we can keep doing that we will be in a good place."

The title race may be only a few games old but Rangers have already put themselves in a commanding position as they look to clinch a Premiership return at the second time of asking.

It has been an encouraging opening few weeks for Warburton as his new look side have hit the ground running but the Ibrox boss insists there is still plenty of hard work to be done this term.

He said: “We are a quarter of the way through the season, it is early days still for us so it is important that we retain focus and commitment.

“If we can do it, come the end of the season I think we will be in a good place.

“We can’t [become complacent]. The margins are so fine in football and the higher you go in sport, the finer those margins become.

“If we are complacent in any way, if we are poorly prepared in any way, if a training session is slack in any way, we will pay the price and get hurt, there is no doubt about that.”
