RANGERS made it a perfect ten in the Championship with a 2-1 win over Queen of the South at Ibrox this afternoon.

Mark Warburton’s side had to come from behind to see off the Doonhamers and move on to a maximum 30 points as they extended their second tier winning run.

Derek Lyle had Queens ahead in the first half but a fine finish from Jason Holt and a Martyn Waghorn header, just seconds after he had missed a penalty, were enough to give the Light Blues another win.

Warburton made two changes from the side that beat Falkirk at Ibrox last time out as Danny Wilson and Nathan Oduwa were replaced by Dominic Ball and Kenny Miller.

Defender Wilson was absent through a knock while Oduwa spent the domestic shutdown on international duty with the England Under-20 side.

It was a purposeful start from the Light Blues as they went in search of another Championship triumph but they were left frustrated as their pressure came to nothing.

Miller couldn’t convert from inside the six yard box after being picked out by Barrie McKay before Waghorn twice came close as he looked to add to his impressive goal tally already this term.

There were long range efforts from James Tavernier and Andy Halliday that were blocked on the edge of the area and a Lee Wallace strike was saved by keeper Robbie Thomson.

On 35 minutes, Ibrox was stunned as Queens took a shock lead, Lyle converting at the back post after Chris Higgins flicked on a Ryan Conroy corner.

It was the first time Rangers had conceded the opening goal on league duty this term and left them with a problem to solve if they were to extend their second tier winning streak.

Just eight minutes into the second half, Warburton’s side got the goal they needed as they pulled themselves level, Holt finishing well from a tight angle after a superb through ball from right back Taverrnier.

Rangers immediately went chasing the third goal of the afternoon and after McKay somehow fired wide of target from a couple of yards out, Waghorn’s shot went agonisingly over the bar.

Rangers continued to press as they looked for what looked like it would be a winner as the clock ticked down but Queens almost sprung another surprise at the opposite end, sub Liam Coogans unable to beat keeper Wes Foderingham.

After Wallace saw a shot deflected wide of the far post, Ball should have done better as he headed wide.

With just two minutes to go, Warburton’s side had their best chance of the game but keeper Thomson pulled off a terrific save from a Waghorn penalty.

Seconds later, it was the Gers striker that went from zero to hero as he headed an Oduwa cross beyond Thomson to send Ibrox wild and make it ten from ten in the second tier.
