KYLE HUTTON reckons Mark Warburton has changed attitudes on and off the park at Ibrox after Rangers extended their Championship winning streak on Saturday.

Hutton returned to his former home with Queen of the South and looked to be leaving with a share of the spoils after Jason Holt cancelled out Derek Lyle’s opener for the visitors.

But the Doonhamers were left deflated when Martyn Waghorn headed home the winner in the dying seconds – just moments after keeper Robbie Thomson had pulled off a terrific stop to deny the striker from the penalty spot.

The winning goal was wildly celebrated by the Light Blue legions as Warburton’s side maintained their advantage in the second tier title race.

And Hutton admits the Gers are unlikely to be caught as he looks to help Queens in the battle for the best of the rest spots this term.

He said: “I think they take a lot more chances than the team last year. They leave a lot of men up the park and stretch the game.

“Obviously, it is doing well for them. That’s the main difference I have noticed.

“I think the atmosphere is a bit different as well – because they are taking those chances.

“They are leaving men up and playing more attacking football. That’s what the fans want to see.

“That (the crowd) was a big difference. I remember the times we would go in at half-time 1-0 down and all hell would break loose.

“Obviously, it wasn’t like that at all today. And that is coming from the style of football the manager is trying to play. People are buying into that. If they do go in at 1-0 down, they are not that bothered because they know they will come out and have a right go in the second half.

“Overall, I think it is the whole style of football he is trying to play that is getting the fans behind him.

“It looks that way [that everyone else is playing for second place]. But we’ll just keep plugging away and hopefully get a play-off spot. We’ll leave Rangers to do what they do.”

Hutton spent five years at Ibrox before leaving the club in the summer as the Light Blues squad was cleared out and overhauled in the aftermath of a nightmare campaign.

He won four major honours for the Gers but is now looking to make his mark at Palmerston and help Queens in their own promotion bid.

And the midfielder was disappointed he couldn’t mark his return with a positive result as James Fowler’s side were left with nothing to show for their efforts.

Hutton said: “It was strange being in a different dressing room and coming out at the start.

“It didn’t work out the way we wanted in the end. But we will take confidence from how long we held out.

“After the penalty save, you do think you are going to get away with a point. But credit to Rangers, they kept going and got the goal right at the end – as they always seem to do. They poured men forward.

“We had been working on our game plan all week. We knew about how their full-backs bomb on and where the space was.

“I thought we did well to contain them and we caused a few problems as well, especially in the first half. That was pleasing.

“We had another couple of chances when it was 1-1 and on another day you maybe go through and take them.

“Losing the way we did was a hard one to take but we will keep going. We have a good run of games coming up.”
