MARK WARBURTON has admitted many of his friends don’t understand why he wouldn’t quit Rangers for an English club – but the manager insisted he’s at Ibrox for the long haul.

QPR and Fulham are two clubs recently linked to the 52-year-old and it is no great secret that his success at Brentford more than anything else means that his name will be mentioned with just about any job that comes up in the English Championship.

Warburton admitted he can only convince the doubters, who would see QPR as a major step-up from the second tier of Scottish football, by inviting them to a game in Glasgow.

The Gers boss said: "You have to take this (the stories) as a compliment. It is flattering to be linked with a job because it’s not everyone who does get linked with a job. I can’t deny that it’s a nice compliment.

“But the focus is here with Rangers. This is a massive club and we are six months into the project. You can’t ask players to commit and then don’t commit yourself.

“In football and in any business, you live and die by your decisions. It’s as simple as that. If you make the right decision, great, if you make a bad one then you pay the price.

"I made the choice to come to a fantastic club.

“We are six months into this project and all I can say is look at Rangers history, come to a home games, that’s what I say to my friends, come to Murray Park and then tell me what you think.

“Friends do ask what I am doing here. Especially the younger ones who don’t know about the history of Rangers.

“We had a couple of guys from Brentford come up and they were blown away by the home game against Hibs. They couldn’t believe the support.

"There were 50,000 fans and there was a great atmosphere and build-up to the game. That is the only way to get it across to them.”
