MORTON boss Jim Duffy reckons Rangers’ quality paid dividends as they ran out 2-0 winners at Cappielow last night.

The Ton put up a good showing against the Championship leaders but goals in either half from Kenny Miller and Barrie McKay clinched the win for Mark Warburton’s side.

And Duffy was pleased with the application and performance from his players as they turned in another decent showing against the Light Blues.

He said: “The first goal was a big turning point for us. I think it was the wrong decision, I think it was offside. That meant we then had to chase the game and Rangers could play on the counter attack.

“I’ve not seen our penalty claim again but the players are adamant it was a handball. But for me the first goal was the bigger turning point and the referee got it wrong.

“It is a deflection - that’s not a pass or our player trying to play the ball. It’s a ball hitting one of our players, so that’s offside. If it is perceived by others to be a good goal, fair enough, but that for me was a turning point.

“One other thing I want to point out is that we are the ones who sometimes get stick for being ultra-competitive when we play Rangers but they had a lot more bookings than we did.

“I don’t have an issue with that, but it shows you they can look after themselves as much as anyone else.

“It was an extremely difficult match. Rangers are used to dominating possession and to controlling games, but I think we gave them a run for their money.

“It is about working hard, being organised and asking questions of the opposition. If Rangers win the game, they have to earn the right to do it and we certainly didn’t give them any time to just stroll through it tonight.

“Overall, I’m delighted with the attitude and work ethic of the players and we were a wee bit unlucky once or twice not to score. Rangers have that wee bit extra quality in the final third and that can sometimes be the difference.”
