MARK WARBURTON was pleased his tactical switch paid dividends for Barrie McKay as the forward helped Rangers to victory over Morton on Monday night.

McKay netted the crucial second goal for the Light Blues at Cappielow as he combined well with Kenny Miller, who opened the scoring in Greenock, and doubled the Gers’ advantage with 20 minutes remaining.

The 21-year-old made the most of a change to a more central position during the second half and boss Warburton told RangersTV: “We want players and we talk about players having flexibility of positions and Barrie has been outstanding for us, but he wasn’t getting much joy on the left flank.

“We were getting balls to him with the occasional switch, but not as much as we would have liked.

“Gedion (Zelalem) and Nicky Law worked very hard and took a lot of legs out of the opposition but Barrie comes inside, he can play seven, eight, ten, eleven, and I was delighted again with his contribution.”
