STUART McCALL has urged the Ibrox crowd to be patient with boss Mark Warburton and the Light Blues board during the final days of the January transfer window.

Warburton has completed deals for Maciej Gostomski and Harry Forrester so far this month and agreed pre-contract moves with Accrington Stanley duo Matt Crooks and Josh Windass.

But he has missed out on midfielder Toumani Diagouraga and been unable to get a swoop for St Johnstone striker Michael O’Halloran over the line as yet.

He remains confident of adding to his squad before the window closes next week and former Ibrox boss McCall knows it can take time to get deals done.

McCall told SportTimes: “You have got to trust the manager. He will have a valuation of a player.

“Sometimes you have to pay over the odds for a player and that is football. It depends how desperate you are to get somebody, but you don’t want to be done and pay well over the odds for someone.

“There is still enough time to get people in and if they don’t then the supporters will enquire why. But there is time in the window and there is probably still a lot going on behind the scenes at Ibrox that the fans don’t know about.

“Mark is building for the future and if he can’t get a player for the right deal at this moment in time then he can wait until the summer and the market will be different there. Right now, you are limited on options.

They want to get somebody in, but they won’t just dive in and pay over the odds for someone if the manager doesn’t think it is the right fit.

“You have got to trust the manager and the staff and see what they do over the next while because until now everything has gone well.”

Rangers head into the Championship clash with Falkirk on Saturday five points clear in the title race after Monday’s 2-0 win at Morton.

And McCall is confident Warburton has enough quality within his ranks to clinch the second tier crown even if he can’t add to his squad in the coming days.

He said: “When it comes to the run-in, everyone will tell you that Rangers is a great place to play, and it is, but it is difficult at times as well.

“They had a little blip recently and that is when you need experienced players to help the younger ones. Even the ones at 23, 24, 25 won’t have had the kind of expectation on them that there is at Rangers when you are going for a title.

“There is a dearth of leaders in the game and it is always difficult to get players in this window.

“If nobody does come in, I still think Rangers are strong enough to win the league. But it would give them a helping hand if they could get a couple of players in.”
