MARK WARBURTON admits the return of four Old Firm clashes next season would be 'tremendous' as he looks to guide Rangers back to the Premiership.

The Light Blues are eight points clear at the top of the Championship with just eleven games left this term and are on course to finally clinch their top flight return.

Rangers lost out to Celtic in the League Cup semi-finals at Hampden last term but could meet in the Scottish Cup this season if they can see off Dundee or Dumbarton and Ronny Deila's side beat Morton in the last eight.

Warburton said: "It’s fantastic for the fans and for the players to experience a game of that nature and it has to be our target. Four Old Firm games would be tremendous for the city.

"Our targets are very clear, there’s no point masking them. Our targets are for Rangers to return to the top table of Scottish football and kick on from there.

"We have to prepare accordingly, look at our recruitment, the structure of our training ground, where can we be better and prepare everything for the next level."

Rangers returned to winning ways in the Championship on Sunday as Kenny Miller netted the only goal of the game to clinch a hard-fought victory against Queen of the South.

Hibs have a chance to reduce the gap at the top of the table when they play their game in hand against Morton on Wednesday night.

The title rivals will meet for the final time this term in April and Warburton knows Hibs will still have a positive perspective on their promotion chances.

"I'd be saying if we win our game in hand we're five points behind," he told Sky Sports News.

"If they lose one, then we win, we're now two points behind and then we play them.

"That would be my mentality if I was the Hibernian coach so we recognise that. All we can do is control our end, perform week in week out and put wins on the board."
