FRANK MCPARLAND hopes Rangers can bring the top domestic talents to Ibrox in the coming years as he looks close to home for potential Light Blues stars.

The Gers’ Head of Recruitment will have a key role to play during the summer as boss Mark Warburton bids to bolster his squad for what looks like being a shot at the Premiership next term.

Rangers signed Billy King and Michael O’Halloran from Hearts and St Johnstone respectively late in the January transfer window and McParland is happy to keep doing deals on our doorstep to strengthen Warburton’s first team pool and the Auchenhowie youth ranks.

He said: “I would say that I am really interested in the Scottish market. I have never really done loads of work in Scotland.

“I remember when I was in the Academy at Liverpool trying to sign Darren Fletcher and I was gutted when I didn’t get him because I thought he was a top player.

“I have always looked in Scotland. John Fleck was another one so there are some really good players.

“Now, seeing the SPL, and I have watched a lot of games, I think there are some good players in there.

“From Craig Mulholland’s point of view at the Academy, we need to be getting the best young players from Scotland to Rangers.

“We look at Scotland first then we look down south and look further afield if we don’t get enough players of the standard that we want.”

Warburton has enjoyed an impressive strike rate in the transfer market so far at Ibrox and his newly remodelled squad have stormed clear in the Championship title race.

The Light Blues are well on course to clinch a Premiership place sooner rather than later and have already snapped up Matt Crooks and Josh Windass from Accrington Stanley on pre-contract deals.

And McParland is keen to get down to business as he looks to do the right deals to bolster Warburton’s squad once again.

He said: “January is probably the worst window. In the summer, players are out of contract and it is much easier to do business but we are quite pleased.

“We did the two young boys at Accrington who, I must stress, are young boys. They will come here as squad players and it will be up to them to see how they progress.

“We are really happy with Michael O’Halloran and Billy King has come in and made an impact. It was hard work without doing loads of business, really.

“Obviously we need to know what league we are in. Hopefully we go up but, if we don’t, we have to prepare for staying where we are.

“We have got the two boys from Accrington as new recruits in the summer no matter what league are in. We are going to lose three players who go back from being on loan, which they have done great for us.

“We will still need to bring new players in no matter what league we are in.

“We just need to see what money is available, but still do our work and David (Weir), Warbs and myself are looking at a lot of players for each situation, whether we stay in the Championship or hopefully for when we progress into the Premier League.”

Boss Warburton is keen to use the loan market where possible to bring in young players and give them a chance to shine at Ibrox.

And former Liverpool youth chief McParland hopes more top talents follow the examples of Dominic Ball and Gedion Zelalem next term.

“It falls down to what positions we need, the level of the player, the level of the club, how we play football here,” he told RangersTV.

“We are getting clubs who are actually offering us players now where we used to knock on the door and ask for players.

“We have got a great relationship with a few London clubs, with Liverpool, with Man City. We will only bring top players here on loan.”
