RANGERS manager Mark Warburton has defended the substitutions he made in his side's defeat to Falkirk.

A 2-0 lead quickly became a 3-2 reverse after the Ibrox boss made changes on Friday night.

Some supporters took to social media to question the manager's decisions which they believes had cost their team a victory.

But speaking to RangersTV.tv, Warburton said: "Barrie [McKay] and Kenny [Miller] have worked so hard of late, and we weren’t putting on 16 and 17 year-old boys – we were putting on experienced players.

“The bench was a high quality bench, and we wanted to add that energy and maintain a tempo to it, so I have no problem with the substitutions.

“In the second half we weren’t good, but I don’t know how many corners we had in the second half, and how many chances we had, so we need to look at it and take the rewards when they are there.

“Someone said to me about negative substitutions we out on Michael O’Halloran, Nicky Clark and Harry Forrester – I’m not sure how much more positive we can be.

“We looked to give key players a rest and add the energy and tempo. We looked at that and thought if it was the right thing to do – and I think it was.”

Rangers captain Lee Wallace felt that complacency had been a problem on Friday night and he was not the only one.

Warburton said: ""Everyone talks about complacency, and I think sometimes, and I’ll be careful how I say this but it was almost too easy in the first half.

“We were playing so well and our movement was so good that it perhaps encouraged the extra touch – and what we don’t do is take the unnecessary touch.

“If we had played two-touch in the second half we would have been fine. But the players know that – and they are a top quality group – and they are sick to the stomach in that changing room.

“We were worried even about drawing the game, but if we can learn as a group then we will be better for it.”

‘The players will give everything now and I know how hard they are going to train this week in terms of their quality and their focus, and we are looking forward to the Queen of the South game now.

“While the lead is healthy and we deserve to have that lead, we have said we had won nothing yet.”
