BARRIE MCKAY savoured Rangers’ Championship coronation as he completed a journey it looked like he may never get a chance to finish.

The winger was part of the Light Blues squad that won the Third Division four years ago but faced an uncertain future last summer after spells on loan at Morton and Raith Rovers.

He has been a standout performer for Mark Warburton’s side this time out, however, as he has helped fire the Gers back to the Premiership.

And now McKay hopes there is another crowning moment to come as the Light Blues set their sights on Scottish Cup glory at Hampden next month.

He told rangers.co.uk: “It definitely feels as good to lift the trophy as I thought it would, especially after the journey that we’ve been through.

“It’s great to finally lift the cup and to be back to the top, where we belong.

“I maybe didn’t think at this time last year that I would be here and lifting the trophy as I didn’t know where I was going to be last summer.

“I always planned to be playing here and when the gaffer came here he told everyone that it was a clean slate and he put a lot of confidence in me. He told me that I had to go and impress and thankfully I’ve done that.

“Sadly we didn’t get the win [on Saturday], but there’s plenty more to come and we’ll now look on to the last remaining league games and the cup final.

“It would put the icing on the cake if we were able to go and win the Scottish Cup after winning the league and the Petrofac Cup.”
