JOSH WINDASS insists he isn’t focused on finishing his Accrington career as Stanley’s top scorer as he targets promotion glory this season.

The Rangers-bound forward took his tally for the campaign to 16 with a brace in the 3-0 win over York City on Saturday.

John Coleman’s side are second in the League Two standings with just two matches remaining this term.

Windass spent several weeks out of action earlier in the campaign but is now just one goal behind top-scorer Billy Kee at the Wham Stadium.

And the 22-year-old insists he only has his sights set on promotion before he and team-mate Matt Crooks make the switch to Ibrox this summer.

“I’m one behind Billy now but Billy could have shot for my second instead of laying it off to me,” Windass told Accrington’s official website.

“None of us are really bothered about finishing top scorer, as long as we get promoted. Naz the kit man can come on and get 20 goals as long as we go up!

“The job’s not done. If you’d said to us before the start of the season we’d be guaranteed a play-off place with three games to go we would’ve taken your hand off so to be second with two games to go is unbelievable.

“Normally the gaffer would be going mad at me (for the first goal) because the cross came in and I didn’t get into the box.

“I just stayed on the edge because my legs were tired at the time and I saw the ball come out from the area, I got there before the defender and I just thought I’d hit it with my left foot. Thankfully it went into the bottom corner.

“The second one took about 400 deflections and went in but it was on target so I think it’s still my goal!

“We’re not feeling the pressure. Because we’re not expected to be there I don’t think there is too much pressure.

“We just approach the next game, if we win it then great and if we don’t we’re confident we can win the one after that.”
