MARTYN WAGHORN reckons there are similarities between the way Rangers have operated this season and the approach favoured by Premier League champions-elect Leicester.

The striker spent four years at the King Power Stadium before quitting the Foxes to join Wigan in 2014 after three loan spells away from City.

Waghorn will return to action after a knee injury when Rangers face St Mirren tomorrow as he looks to get up to speed for the Scottish Cup final.

And the 26-year-old is pleased to see his former club on the brink of glory ahead of their trip to Old Trafford.

Waghorn said: “It’s fantastic. You could see in the last year I was there that the foundations were being set at the club, driven by the likes of Jamie Vardy, Danny Drinkwater and Andy King.

“The way we pressed, the way we worked hard and closed down and the quality on the counter attack was there - it just needed the right man to provide the finishing touches and I think they’ve got that now.

“It’s like us. We’ve both got a small, close-knit squad built on hard work, desire and fighting for each other. That takes you a long way in the game.

“I speak to a few of them every now and then. I text them after games and they do the same for me. It is great for them.

“I don’t know how the weekend will work out but they have done a fantastic job and they have got a big game so I don’t want to be in their ear. They have done a great job and there is one game to go and then it is all done.

“It does show that you don’t need to spend millions and millions or a huge squad. It can be a bit disruptive if you have players that aren’t happy playing.

“The manager there has done the same as us. It is all about your work rate, your desire, keeping your shape because if you fall out then you might not get back in for a few weeks.

“It keeps everyone on their toes. He has done a great job and the quality they have got on the break is different class.”
