JASON HOLT joined in the party to celebrate one of the most famous Scottish Cup wins Hampden has ever hosted.

Now the midfielder is determined to play a starring role on the big stage as Mark Warburton’s side set their sights on the silverware this weekend.

Four years ago, Holt watched on as Hearts beat Hibernian 5-1 to lift the cup and prolong the agony for their Capital counterparts.

Holt had only played a handful of games for the Jambos in the months before the final and the closest he got to the action was by taking up a seat in the stand.

This time it could be a far different experience for the 23-year-old, though, as Rangers look to see off Alan Stubbs’ side and clinch a unique Treble this term.

Holt said: "The one that springs to mind is that 5-1 win over Hibs when I was at Hearts.

"I wasn't involved in the game itself but luckily I was able to travel with the squad and enjoy the celebrations afterwards. That was a great day.

"I'd made my breakthrough that season and I had been training a lot with the first team.

"I got one or two games and it was an incredible experience just to be a part of it all.

"I was suited and booted and out on the pitch with the cup at the final whistle.

"Of course, the following day we had the open top bus tour of Edinburgh, which again was an amazing experience and something I will always look back on.

"I didn't really consider myself a first team player back then so just to be involved in all of that was brilliant.

"I enjoyed the game and I enjoyed the celebrations. Going round the city the next day was incredible.

"And, of course, it really whetted my appetite for more success. It's like everyone says, once you've had a taste of it you want it all the time. I'm no different in that regard.

"I was part of the whole occasion and that will maybe help a bit ahead of this weekend.

"But I should be involved on the pitch this time so in that sense I don't think it will have too much bearing."

Rangers may be heading to Hampden on the back of a poor end to the Championship campaign but Warburton and his players have a chance to write their names in the Light Blue history books.

The occasion is just as significant for Hibs as they attempt to end their Hampden hoodoo and have a medal to show for their efforts this term after defeat in the League Cup final and loss to Falkirk that ended their promotion dreams.

Rangers currently lead the head-to-head record between the teams this term but Holt knows it will be a fiercely competitive affair come the first whistle on Saturday.

He said: “I think they are going to be itching to go out on Saturday and win the game, win the cup, for the fans. We’re no different.

“We want to go and do the same it’s a big game for the players, the club and the staff. We want to make sure it’s a good day.

“We have played them quite a few times but we can’t treat it any differently. It is a cup final but we just need to go out and do the things we’ve been doing all season, which has made us successful.

“To be fair every time we’ve played Hibs it’s been about us. We’ve concentrated on ourselves.

“We’ve not looked too much into them. We’ll go and do our own jobs and if we do the stuff we know we’re good at then hopefully we’ll do well on the day.

“Going into these games you want to do the things you do well, even better. Big occasion, a final, the stuff we’ve been doing all season we just want to do that again, but better on the day.”
