THE board knew as soon as they got in to Ibrox last March that they were going to have problems with Mike Ashley and that has turned out to be the case unfortunately.

He has taken so much from Rangers, and he was allowed to. It wasn’t a case of ‘I want this, I want that’. He was offered it by those who were in charge at the time.

And when you are offered the deals he was, of course you are going to grab it with both hands. What a deal it is for him.

But, for Rangers, it was absolutely ridiculous. The board knew it would be difficult for them and they have taken another step this week by terminating the IP Licence and Rights Agreement with Rangers Retail Limited.

Dave King and the directors won’t give up here and the supporters will be delighted at what they are doing and their latest move.

Mike Ashley is not going to go away, he will fight it. But the fans are delighted at the way the board are operating and things are a lot better than they were last year.

They are trying to fix things all the time and new issues come up all the time. This is the biggest problem for them, though.

The fans love going into the shop and buying the new kit and merchandise but they aren’t doing it right now, and rightly so when you see what Rangers get out of it.

This is another move in what will still be a lengthy battle. This is not the end of it.

In the coming days, weeks and months, Mike Ashley will respond to Rangers and there could well be a long way to go yet.

It may end up back in court once again but the fans at least know that the board will be doing all they can for the good of Rangers.
