RANGERS have reportedly begun talks with captain Lee Wallace over a contract extension until 2019.

The Scotland international currently has one year remaining on his deal at Ibrox and the club want to ensure his future is with the Gers.

The Scottish Sun report today that Rangers have opened negotiations for a new three-year deal, tying Wallace to the club until the summer of 2019.

Manager Mark Warburton is said to have been influential in the move, as he wants to ensure the left-back isn't free to sign pre-contract agreements in January.

The 28-year-old wants to stay and his willingness could ensure that the talks go smoothly over the coming days.

Wallace has become a popular figure since arriving from Hearts in 2011, staying with the club as they dropped to the fourth tier of Scottish football.

Last season he scored seven goals and provided 10 assists in the Championship as Rangers secured the league title and their return to the top-flight.
