SHAWN FERGUSON is delighted to have a chance to face Rangers as Mark Warburton’s side get set for action in America.

The Light Blues will take to the field for the first time this season when they face Charleston Battery tonight and continue their preparations for the big kick-off.

Boss Warburton has put his squad through a gruelling schedule in the South Carolina heat since the Gers made the trip across the Atlantic last Monday.

It has been a productive exercise for the 53-year-old and his players as several new faces have had a chance to get to know their team-mates while working on the park and in the gym.Glasgow Times: Mark Warburton

The Battery clash will be the only match action Rangers get before they face Motherwell in their Betfred Cup opener at Fir Park next weekend.

And skipper Ferguson can’t wait to go head-to-head with the champions ahead of their Premiership return this term.

He said: “We’re halfway through our season so we are all in good shape and good health.

“It will be a good test for Rangers, especially the way the weather is in Charleston right now.

“They are a historic club which you hear about growing up. All the games on the team are definitely aware of their reputation around the world and what that means.

“We are all trying to get to MLS level or even overseas and we have a lot of guys who are hungry to make an impact so they can make a jump in their career.

“I played last summer against Wet Brom and that was a great game because it allowed us to compare ourselves and see how a different organisation works.

“It’s been awesome to watch Rangers and see how the practice and train and see the attitude that they will bring to the game which is maybe a little different from here in America.

“We’re excited that Rangers are playing different 11s in each half because you want to play someone when they are their peak.

“We want to see how we can compete against their skill level and see how we stack up.”
