CHARLIE ADAM reckons Joey Barton will ‘cruise’ the Premiership next season after making his headline-grabbing move to Rangers.

The midfielder is the most high-profile signing of the summer in Scottish football and has already made his presence felt at Ibrox as he has thrown down the gauntlet for the coming campaign and aimed jibes at Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers and captain Scott Brown.

Barton made his Gers bow in the Betfred Cup win over Annan on Tuesday night and could feature in the Group F clash with East Stirlingshire this evening.

The 33-year-old will be an integral part of Mark Warburton’s plans as Rangers set their sights on the Premiership crown in the coming months and former Ibrox midfielder Adam said: "He should cruise it. He’s a good quality player and he’ll do well there.

“There’s a lot of expectation for them, because they have spent a bit of money.”
