RANGERS manager Mark Warburton has laughed off suggestions that he is on the verge of signing former Arsenal and Manchester United striker Robin van Persie.
Odds were slashed overnight by bookies on the move going ahead, with Ladbrokes then suspending bets altogether earlier today.
The Fenerbahce forward was linked with joining the Ibrox side despite his current £5 million per year deal that has two years to run in Turkey.
The reports and rumours left Warburton confused, but he said he finds it easy to see the funny side of the rumour mill.
"I wonder what the first question will be," he said ahead of today's press conference.
"I have no idea where the rumour has emanated from. I woke up to a barrage of texts and missed calls, with apparently the deal done.
"Everybody knew about it apart from the people at Rangers Football Club.
"Out of our pay league I think is a fair comment.
"He's an unbelievably talented player but absolutely nothing in it whatsoever. I'm bemused to hear some of the stories, including betting being suspended.
"There is no truth in the story whatsoever."
These stories do entertain me. I don't know where these things come from. I'm sure someone is laughing somewhere."
