MARK WARBURTON is confident the friendly clash with Burnley tomorrow will be the ideal way to round off Rangers’ preparations for the new Premiership campaign.

The Light Blues clinched top spot in Group F with a 3-0 win over Stranraer on Monday night at Ibrox.

It was the end of a productive Betfred Cup first round campaign for Warburton as he saw his side also overcome Motherwell, Annan and East Stirlingshire with relative ease.

Rangers scored ten goals and didn’t concede as they ended the section with a maximum twelve points and there were few times when Warburton’s side were put under sustained periods of pressure.

The visit of Premier League newcomers Burnley tomorrow will be Warburton’s final chance to see his side in action before the top flight opener against Hamilton Accies.

And the Ibrox boss is looking forward to going head-to-head with Sean Dyche’s side for the second time in twelve months.

Warburton said: “Saturday will be a step up for us. I know Sean, I’ve spoken with him and they’ll be very strong.

“It will be a tough test but these are exactly the kind of games we need. Our match fitness is good.

“We’ve worked hard in training, we worked really hard in Charleston and you’ve seen our fitness and our performances improve as the games go by.

“It’s an English Premier League team, they were deserved winners of the Championship last season so it’s a definite step up in quality. They are well organised and very well managed.

“It was the league cup, it is what it is. We can’t control it. We’ve gone into those games and played very well.

“We’ve dominated games of football, we’ve played four and kept four clean sheets.

“There’s been no real questions asked defensively and that’s difficult for the goalkeepers.

“We put Wes (Foderingham) in for two and Matt (Gilks) in for two — they haven’t had much to do and that’s testament to the good work of the team.

“Much of our work in pre-season has been on the defensive side as well as improving offensively.”
