DANNY WILSON is confident midfielder Jordan Rossiter will go from strength to strength this season after hitting the ground running at Ibrox.

The former Liverpool kid has made an instant impact for Mark Warburton’s side and was the star performer in the 2-1 win over Dundee last weekend.

Wilson made the move in the opposite direction as an 18-year-old as he joined the Reds in a £3million deal after bursting onto the scene at Ibrox.

And he is impressed with the way Rossiter has handled the switch to Scotland and become a key part of Warburton’s squad in the Premiership.

He said: “It couldn’t have been easy for him [moving here]. I have heard the manager talking recently about when you send out young players it is easy to live around where they already do.

“He is young and he is coming up here away from his home and playing for a big club so credit to him for that.

“He has started really well and anything we can do here to help him flourish we will do. He has started well and long may that continue.

“He is thought very highly of in the England youth setup but he is at an age now where he needs to be playing.

“He wants to be playing and that is why he has maybe taken the decision to come here. As for how far he can go, it is up to him.

“He can only come up here, play well and see where it takes him. We will enjoy him while he is here and hopefully it is for a long time.”

Rossiter captained England to the semi-finals of the Under-19 European Championships in the summer before joining up at Ibrox last month.

And Wilson is confident he can have a bright career in Light Blue as he looks to make his mark in the middle of the park.

He said: “I know it is a cliché but he plays with a maturity beyond his years. You saw on Saturday how good he was. He covers every blade of grass.

“He has been well schooled down there and he is a bit old school in his ways as well. He likes to tackle and I don’t think there are a lot of young players coming through that put the foot in and like to do the dirty side of the game.

“He really does and he seems to enjoy it but he is a good footballer on top of that. We are lucky to have him.

“It is good work going on behind the scenes that have allowed us to get him. He has come in and done really well so that bodes well for the future.”
