JAMES TAVERNIER was relieved as Rangers left it late to see off Motherwell and retain top spot in the Premiership standings.

Mark Warburton’s side had to come from behind at Ibrox to record a second consecutive league win as they followed up on the victory over Dundee last weekend win another 2-1 triumph.

Scott McDonald had the Steelmen on course for at least a share of the spoils after his 18th minute opener and there were frustrations amongst the home crowd at a mixed showing from the Light Blues.

A Harry Forrester strike brought Rangers level before Kenny Miller won it in the final seconds to send Ibrox wild and move Warburton’s side onto seven points from three games.

The Gers boss was frustrated with the performance once again but Tavernier knows the final result was the most important thing for the Premiership title hopefuls.

“It is always great to win a game in that fashion and we knew we weren’t the greatest [on Saturday],” he told RangersTV.

“But we play to the end, knowing we are wearing the team down and we created chances. To win right at the last minute, the place just erupted.

“It was a great relief to know that it was 2-1 and we had the three points in the bag.

“It showed the depth of the squad with the people that came on. Andy (Halliday) and Baz (Barrie McKay) had a good game and then the new lads came on and added more energy.

“We showed great resilience to win in the 90th minute. Sometimes there is not a better feeling than to win in those minutes and it just showed how strong we are as a team.

“The noise was absolutely terrific, even just jogging back to the centre spot when the fans were singing.

“It was a good relief that we did get the goal and three points. We sent the fans home happy and that is the main thing we have to do.”
