HARRY FORRESTER hopes ‘fox in the box’ Joe Garner can prove his quality at Ibrox after clinching a move to Rangers.

The striker completed his switch from Preston North End on Saturday and was paraded at half-time of the 2-1 Premiership win over Motherwell.

Garner is the tenth addition to Mark Warburton’s squad this summer and has agreed a three-year deal with the Light Blues.

He could make his Gers bow against Kilmarnock on Friday night and Forrester is confident the 28-year-old will prove to be another useful addition to the Ibrox ranks.

He said: “I have played against Joe a few times in England. He is a great striker.

“He will get goals. He is a livewire. He will run in behind. He is a fox in the box type.

“Everyone has seen his famous goal on Sky Sports when he lifts it over the player’s head and puts it in the top corner.

“That is the quality he has got. Hopefully we can see that at Ibrox.

“I think we are [still getting used to each other]. We have been promoted, we have had new boys come in, a lot of new signings have been made.

“Things don’t click into gear straight away. It is pleasing to see that, even though we don’t feel at our best yet, we are still picking up points.”

Rangers will head to Rugby Park top of the Premiership standings after they came from behind to secure their second successive league win on Saturday.

Forrester cancelled out Scott McDonald’s opener before Kenny Miller hit a dramatic last minute winner for Warburton’s side.

Substitute Niko Kranjcar was instrumental in both goals as the Gers secured a valuable win and Forrester was pleased to see the Croatian make an impact once again.

He said: “The gaffer has said from day one what Niko brings. He did very well when he came on.

“Like the gaffer says, it is a squad game. He normally likes to make two subs after an hour and the two boys who have come on have done well. It is a positive for everyone.

“Niko is doing his work to get fit. He got half an hour on Saturday which is good.

“We know what Niko brings. Everyone knows the quality of Niko Kranjcar.”

It was to prove a mixed afternoon for Rangers as they had to grind out another narrow Premiership triumph following a 2-1 win at Dundee last weekend.

And Forrester knows there is room for improvement for Warburton’s side as attentions turn to the trip to Rugby Park this week.

He said: “We need to move the ball a lot quicker. In the first half it was being moved too slowly and they were able to get back into position.

“If you let teams get back and behind the ball they are really difficult to break down. But from the first minute of the second half we got behind them a few times, pinned them back and moved the ball a lot quicker.

“Teams are a lot more organised. Last season they worked hard against us and our quality shone through at the end. That’s not always going to be the case.

“We know what we’ve got in the dressing room and we will always keep going like we did on Saturday.

“My goal came midway through the second half and then we got the late one. We will always keep going.

“Ideally we want to put on a show at home. A lot of people come to watch us and we would like to put on a show for them. But sometimes it is about grit and determination and never giving up.

“We know what we have in the dressing room and that showed out there. We get down to work and even when our backs are against the wall we come out fighting.”
