DOMINIC BALL admits a ‘crazy’ Scottish Cup final was a disappointing way to bring the curtain down on his Rangers career.
The 21-year-old was a key player for Mark Warburton during his loan spell from Tottenham as the Light Blues lifted the Championship title and Petrofac Training Cup last term.
He made 30 appearances for the Gers and became a firm favourite of the Ibrox crowd as he turned in a series of impressive performances in the second tier.
A booking in the semi-final win over Celtic ruled Ball out of the final against Hibs at Hampden and his presence was missed as Warburton’s side saw their Treble dreams turn into a nightmare at the National Stadium.
The pitch invasion at the end of the game marred the showpiece finale to the campaign and Ball was left to ponder what might have been as he was denied another medal to take back to White Hart Lane.
He told SportTimes: “It was horrible to watch. After beating Celtic, which was an amazing feeling, we were the favourites going into the final.
“I knew I wasn’t playing but I was confident that we could go out and win it. I just wanted to be playing and I could see things unfolding on the pitch.
“It is harder when you are playing and the lads had gone three weeks without a game.
“When there is nothing you can do about it, it is stressful to be in the stands.
“I have gone on to the pitch to see the boys and the fans have all come on. It was crazy.
“I was just trying to get a few of the lads, who were obviously angry, in as quickly as possible.
“When everything happened, I just thought about getting the lads in and letting everyone else get on with it.
“It wasn’t the way I wanted to end my time at Rangers, but I couldn’t have asked for a better season.
“The staff and the players there were great with me and Rangers is an incredible club. To get two medals and into the final of the Scottish Cup was very good.”
