JASON HOLT hopes Rangers take out their frustrations on Queen of the South tomorrow night following Saturday’s goalless draw with Ross County.

The Ibrox side created enough chances to win several games but couldn’t find a way past goalkeeper Scott Fox, with Michael O’Halloran pranging the crossbar with a header and Josh Windass and Martyn Waghorn both also coming close.

Holt, who made his first league appearance of the season against the Highlanders, is confident that if Rangers continue to perform to that level things will start to turn around. Their next match is a potentially tricky Betfred Cup quarter-final tie at home to new Championship leaders Queens.

The midfielder said: “It’s another big game for us and we need to put in a strong performance and look to win it, as we do in every match. It’s frustrating we didn’t win on Saturday but if I think if we keep playing the way we did for most of that game then the goals will start to come for us. The type of performance we expect from ourselves was there for most of the match against County. We had chances but just couldn’t get the ball in the back of the net.

“Their goalkeeper had a terrific game and on another day we could have scored three or four. We had one off the bar and a couple off the line as well and sometimes you just have games like that. But we’ll just keep working hard on the training pitch and hope that practise starts to pay off for us in matches.”

Rangers have not won either of the major domestic cup competitions since lifting the League Cup in 2011. With the team struggling for consistency in the Premiership, winning a cup would seem to be their best chance of claiming silverware this season. Holt, though, insisted they would continue to chase honours on all three fronts.

He added: “The cups are important but every competition we are involved in this season we want to win. Whether it’s the league or the cups our focus is always the same. We want to do well in all of them and see how far we can go in each one.”

Queens are unbeaten in the league this season and moved to the top of the Championship courtesy of their victory over Raith on Saturday and Hibs losing to Ayr. They will travel to Ibrox full of confidence and Holt knows Rangers need to be ready to tackle the threat the visitors will pose.

He added: “It’s going to be a real difficult tie for us. The games we had against them last season were all tough so we expect a similar challenge tomorrow night. But it’s one we are looking forward to.”
