MARTYN WAGHORN reckons Rangers took a step in the right direction with victory over Queen of the South on Tuesday.

The striker bagged a second half hat-trick as Mark Warburton’s side secured a 5-0 win to move into the Betfred Cup semi-finals.

After a poor run that saw the Gers drop Premiership points to Kilmarnock, Celtic and Ross County, it was a welcome performance and result against the Doonhamers at Ibrox.

Jason Holt and Andy Halliday were also on target for Warburton’s side and Waghorn was delighted as Rangers booked their place in the last four.

He said: “I am very pleased to get the 90 minutes under my belt. It was important that we built on Saturday, although we didn’t get the result we were looking for.

“We came out with a high tempo and showed that we can finish teams off. Personally, I was delighted to get the three goals as well.
