DAVID WEIR hopes Rangers can silence their doubters after being on the end of some ‘over the top criticism’ during a poor Premiership run.

The Light Blues have come under fire from all quarters in recent weeks after a disappointing start to the season that has seen them collect just nine points from six top flight outings.

An improved performance was rewarded with a 5-0 win over Queen of the South on Tuesday night as Mark Warburton’s side moved into the Betfred Cup semi-finals.

And Ibrox assistant Weir knows all eyes will be on the Gers when they make the trip to Pittodrie to renew their rivalry with Aberdeen on Sunday.

He told rangers.co.uk: “I think we are constantly being judged, that is part of being at Rangers.

“You can’t say ‘oh, give us 12 games’ or ‘give us 20 games’, it doesn’t work like that.

“We are all realistic enough to realise that you are judged every single week.

“That’s the nature of the game and we make no excuses for that and we wouldn’t want it any other way.

“Probably some of the criticism is over the top but that maybe goes with the territory.

“I’m not saying it’s right but it goes with the territory and the only response is to put in performances and get results.

“On Saturday we gave a good performance regardless of what anyone else says.

“On Tuesday we gave another good performance and got a good result so that’s going in the right direction. That is the only response to any negative criticism.”
