IT is easy for people to say ‘just get rid of Joey Barton’ but you have to consider the financial implications here.

He is suspended for another couple of weeks and Rangers will take whatever steps they feel are in their best interests.

I think Joey has let himself down. Everyone has got an opinion, that is fine and that is freedom of speech, but it is the way that you put that opinion across.

The way players speak to each other is different than the way you speak with the manager and there has to be a respect there. If there isn’t, you have a problem.

I think when he said this week that if he knew then what he knows now he probably wouldn’t have come to Rangers that was the final straw for many supporters. They won’t accept that.

If he doesn’t want to be here, then the fans don’t want him here. I can’t speak for the 50,000 fans that go to Ibrox, but I think the majority aren’t impressed with the way Joey has conducted himself.

If he had been a stand-out in most of the games and you could see what he was bringing to the team, it might have been different. But from what we have seen so far, I don’t think the supporters would be too disappointed if he didn’t play for Rangers again.

I said when he arrived that it looked to be a good move for Rangers and you can see why he was signed. He had a great season with Burnley last year and the fans were excited to see him in action at Ibrox.

But I think he saw Scottish football as a walk in the park. He has said that the game here is poor, well he made it poorer because he never improved the level.

I can’t see him coming back and I don’t think the majority of fans would accept him. I would be very surprised if he kicks another ball for Rangers.
