RANGERS went into the international break on the back of a hugely disappointing draw with Ross County last weekend and Mark Warburton will be frustrated with the performance of his side in Dingwall.

After being booed off against St Johnstone, they recovered well and got a good win at home to Kilmarnock and everyone hoped that would be the turning point this season.

But they then missed the chance to go back above Aberdeen in the table as they dropped another two points on Sunday.

A lot of Rangers fans didn’t expect to do an awful lot this year in the Premiership and they were going to assess things in January and the summer and look forward to next term.

But there were some who expected a challenge at the first attempt. For the manager and the players, I think the expectation levels will have undoubtedly been a shock.

They should know what Rangers are all about by now, though. Unless you are going out there and giving your all, entertaining the fans and winning games, you will come in for criticism.

They are seeing the bad side of it now and we will find out if these players have the mentality to come back and respond in the right manner.

We are a winning club. As Bill Shankly said, first is first and second is nowhere.

That applies to Rangers and is something that, even this season when you consider where the club has been, that many fans believe strongly.

Rangers are not going to challenge for the title now but they have to get as close to Celtic as they can and have a good run in the Scottish Cup.

There has to be signs of progress in the coming months. Then we can get to the summer and the fans will expect to see the team moving forward with regards to being able to really challenge for the Premiership next year.
