RANGERS fans might not know a lot about Emerson Hyndman and Jon Toral but both players have to make a positive first impression at Ibrox.

Hyndman arrived on loan from Bournemouth this week and Toral became the second signing of the window when he joined from Arsenal.

They could make their debuts against RB Leipzig tomorrow afternoon and Mark Warburton will hope that they can hit the ground running in Light Blue.

There have been some positive reviews about Hyndman and Toral in recent days but playing for Rangers is completely different to what they have experienced before in their careers.

Football in Glasgow is the be all and end all and there is a lot of pressure on these players to make an impact as Rangers look to get second place in the Premiership this season.

They will have read about being at Ibrox and will have seen games but it is only when they pull on the shirt that it will hit them what they have signed up for this week.

You can be a very good player, but the Rangers fans won’t judge you on what you have done in the past. They will be judged on what they do in the coming months and Mark clearly believes that Hyndman and Toral can make a difference to the side.

The most important factor is that they are better than what we have got already. Rangers didn’t need squad players in this window, they needed players that improve the starting line-up.

Mark has been at the club long enough to know what the supporters expect and he has experience of the Premiership now as well so he understands the standard of player that he needs. Rangers have to finish second this season.

For that to happen, there is no doubt that the midfield needed bolstering this month. It is such an important part of the team and, having lost Joey Barton, Niko Kranjcar and Jordan Rossiter, Mark had to bring in reinforcements in that area of the park.

With Hyndman and Toral on board, guys like Andy Halliday, Jason Holt and Josh Windass will know that their places could be under threat so they will have to up their game now.

The worst thing you can have in a team is someone that knows he will play every week no matter how he is performing. You need genuine competition and if you have that then there is no doubt that you raise your levels.

There may well be players that are disappointed if they lose their place but if Hyndman and Toral come in and improve the side and results improve then that is all that matters for Rangers.

Some fans will be disappointed that Mark hasn’t bought anyone yet. They will look at these loan deals and say that they will only get us through to the end of the campaign.

But Rangers needed strengthening to help in the battle with Aberdeen and Hearts and Hyndman and Toral have a chance to make a real impression over the next few months.

Everyone that I have spoken to has said that they are both good players and that they will do well for Rangers. Only time will tell and it is down to the players themselves.

It is good for Rangers that they have got this game on Sunday and I would think both Hyndman and Toral will start the game so that we can see what they can do.

We are against a side that are second in the Bundesliga so they are a very good team and it will be a real test for Rangers at the Red Bull Arena.

It will be a different kind of game for Rangers, they won’t have as much of the ball as they usually do, and hopefully the manager will learn a lot about his players.

The Old Firm result was disappointing, of course, but the focus now has to be on the Scottish Cup tie with Motherwell and every player has to prove that they deserve to be in the side at Ibrox next weekend.
