I don’t know Michael O’Halloran personally but I watched him at St Johnstone and I thought he would be a really good signing for Rangers.

He has got pace to burn and anyone with that speed can be a real threat in the Premiership. I am sure most Rangers fans were enthusiastic about the deal as well.

But he has been at Ibrox for almost a year now and, for whatever reason, it just hasn’t worked out for him unfortunately.

Has it been the pressure of playing for Rangers and everything that goes with being at a big club? Some players can handle it and some can’t.

I don’t know which category Michael falls into but he hasn’t played that much this season and there has been talk about him maybe leaving on loan during the transfer window.

I still think he could do a job for Rangers but Michael, like every player, will want to be playing week in week out. You don’t want to be on the bench.

There are times when a player has to say to a manager ‘will I be in your plans?’ If the answer is ‘no’, then a move away has to be the best option. If he is still in the plans, you have to be patient and make sure you take your chance when you get it.

There are a couple of clubs interested in signing Michael and it may well be something that he is considering before the window closes in a couple of weeks.

No player wants to be training hard all week and then only getting a few minutes on a Saturday or missing out altogether. That is no use to a player of Michael’s age.

If there is no guarantee of first team football, then sometimes you have to think about moving on. It could be the best thing for you because if you do well on loan then there will be interest in you for next season, or you might even get another chance at your club.

Only Michael will know what he wants to do this month but it wouldn’t be a surprise if he was to move on this month.
