DAVID WEIR hopes Rangers can achieve a ‘fundamental’ aim of life at Ibrox and deliver Scottish Cup silverware this season.

The Light Blues are well off the pace in the Premiership and were beaten by Old Firm rivals Celtic in the semi-finals of the Betfred Cup in October.

The Hoops have their sights set on a domestic clean sweep ahead of the fourth round ties this weekend as the Premiership sides return to action following the winter break.

But Gers assistant manager Weir is determined to bring the trophy back to Ibrox following the Hampden heartache against Hibernian last term.

He said: “Rangers are built on winning trophies. We had the opportunity last year.

“We won the league, we won the Petrofac, we got to the Scottish Cup final. If we had won that it would have been a really successful season, but we didn’t and ultimately the season ends on a disappointment.

“This season, we got in, we try and do as well as we can in the league, we want to get into Europe and have a successful run in the cups.

“Winning a trophy is fundamental to being at Rangers. That is what you are judged on, whether you are a player or a manager.

“That (Celtic going for the Treble) is not really our concern to be honest. We are concerned about what we do, what we are building and winning trophies and it is more important that we win it rather than who else wins it.”
